A chain specializing in party supplies and greeting cards, was experiencing some challenges with the implementation of new planograms and merchandising updates.
The chain, which has more than 170 stores, was relying on in-store personnel to implement these changes. Unfortunately, they didn’t always happen in a timely manner. In addition, the changes did not reflect uniform standards and consistency, ultimately resulting in lost income, missed markdowns and a loss of credit on return-to-vendor deadlines.
Merchco’s merchandising team worked with the account’s category managers to design a program in which trained personnel visited each location on a monthly basis. While there, they performed various planogram updates and merchandising resets.
In addition, Merchco personnel and the retailer’s employees worked together several times each year to implement a nationwide blitz of seasonal sets. By working together, they were able to make these updates at all 170-plus stores in a timely manner.
Finally, Merchco created a reporting structure that notified both Procurement and Operations of store visits, results, inventories, vendor credits and needs.
