Petco

THE PROBLEM

Petco was relying on newly-hired store personnel and in-house coordinators to install and supervise the installation of new store fixtures at 50-100 locations each year.

While successful, this method required the hiring of 15 to 18 store employees. The installation process was lengthy, often extending the time needed between the building takeover and soft opening. Sometimes, employees could not deliver the highest level of quality or assemble fixtures to manufacturer specifications. When problems arose, the company then had to rely on employees or hire a third party to make the necessary repairs. Occasionally this process wasn’t complete until after the store was open for business.

Merchco personnel offered consistency, which ultimately led to improved efficiency and a reduction in store opening costs.

THE SOLUTION

Merchco partnered with the retailer to modify delivery schedules and provide phased deliveries. Merchco also established a team of salaried installers who were dedicated to the account, making it possible to execute the entire installation process in two and a half days. This included the installation of all graphical elements, animal habitats, mill-work and accessories for the office, restroom and break area. In addition, Merchco offers a limited one-year warranty on all items it installs, eliminating costly repairs for the retailers.

  • Store employees, hired after the installation process, could immediately focus their efforts on planogram implementation and the process of stocking the shelves. In many instances, stores were able to plan for a much earlier soft opening.
  • Complaints about improper fixture installation were virtually eliminated. When an issue did arise, Merchco was able to address the issue within 48 hours.
