THE PROBLEM

A leading drug chain planned to implement a multi-year, chain wide remodel program that was to include new fixtures, reconfiguration of existing gondolas, a complete sign package refresh, paint scopes, and additional lighting. The work was to be performed during store hours and in coordination with merchandising personnel. Each store location required a unique scope of work due in part to individual changes and modifications made by district and regional management over time. A history of prior refresh projects at various intervals added to the confusion.

Ordering materials and assigning correct work scopes was difficult if not impossible and lead to short of excessive ordering, delays due to missing material and multiple change orders to complete the store. Painters and electricians were completing their scopes without proper walkthroughs which result in large punch lists and pricey return trips. Faced with the immense size of the program as well as the demands of several concurrent store rollouts that were in progress, Walgreens simply did not have enough field personnel to fully coordinate and supervise the efforts.

THE SOLUTION

Merchco developed trained teams by market, coordinated and supervised various trades resulting in an efficient, consistent, on time result in every store. Merchco also developed outstanding rapport with each store team by generating and completing a “honey do” list for each store.
